The assessment

What exactly do I get?

Two PDFs, a standard edition and a print edition. Inside, you'll find:

  • An opening note and a top-line summary of what matters most
  • Notes on every chapter, with what's working and how to fix the rest
  • Stories and arcs that start but never finish
  • Passages that read like AI, and how to rewrite them
  • Every claim that needs a citation
  • Market research and comparable titles
  • How well your book turns readers into clients, or how ready it is to publish
  • A revision plan that puts your edits in order, with a time estimate for each phase
How fast will I get it?

Within 72 hours of receiving your manuscript. It arrives by email with download links.

What if it doesn't tell me anything new?

Then it's free. Read it, then email orwell@launchquack.com within 10 days of delivery. Tell us what it missed and what it told you that you already knew. We'll refund the full amount.

Why $297 when agencies charge $1,000?

Our founder did this work by hand at an agency, where an assessment like this cost $1,000. Building Orwell brought the price down, and we passed the savings on to you.

What genres do you assess?

We currently assess Self-Help, Self-Help Memoir, Memoir, Business, and Nonfiction, faith-based books included. We don't assess fiction yet.

What files and lengths do you take?

A .docx or .txt file, between 500 and 120,000 words. If your file doesn't fit, we'll email you so you can send a new one.

My book isn't finished. Can I still send it?

Yes. Send what you have, as long as it's at least 500 words. The assessment covers what you've written and what the finished book still needs.

Can I send more than one book?

Each purchase covers one manuscript. For a second book, just buy a second assessment.

I'm outside the US. Can I buy?

Not right now. We only serve customers in the United States. If an order comes from outside the US, we'll refund it.

Can I buy one as a gift?

Not yet. Gifts are coming soon.

What's in it

Does it tell me where I need citations?

Yes. Each chapter's notes end with the claims that need a source, like quotes, statistics, and scripture. We don't find the sources for you, but you'll know exactly where they go.

Does it check for AI-sounding writing?

Yes. Orwell flags passages that share patterns with AI-generated text, and he shows you how to rewrite them. Readers, agents, and publishers watch for these patterns now. A flag doesn't mean you used AI. Tired drafting and habit create the same patterns.

I used AI to help write my book. Is that a problem?

Not to us. We don't judge how you wrote it. The assessment shows you where your book reads like AI, so you can make it sound like you.

Does it flag legal issues like permissions or naming real people?

Yes. Orwell flags quotes, lyrics, and poems that need permission. He also flags real people who could be recognized. His notes aren't legal advice, so talk to a lawyer about anything he flags.

Does Orwell edit or rewrite my book?

No. Orwell tells you what to change and exactly how to do it. You make the changes. If you'd like hands-on help, email us at orwell@launchquack.com.

Will this get me an agent or a book deal?

We can't promise that. The assessment shows you what to fix and how. What happens next is up to you and your book.

Can Orwell get things wrong?

Yes. Orwell can misread a passage or get a fact wrong, just like a human editor can. Check anything important before you rely on it, especially facts, quotes, and dates.

Can I share it with my editor or co-writer?

Yes. Share it with anyone helping with your book. Just don't resell it or publish it as your own.

Your book and your privacy

Who built Orwell?

Our founder. He's a ghostwriter who used to assess manuscripts at a ghostwriting agency. He built Orwell around that work and our own research into what makes books succeed.

Is a person reading my book?

Your assessment is written by Orwell, the assessor our founder designed and built on Anthropic's Claude. Orwell follows the method our founder used as a manuscript assessor at a ghostwriting agency. Our founder may read any assessment, but a person doesn't review each one before it's sent. That's how we keep the price at $297. It also means fewer people ever see your manuscript.

Will my book be used to train AI?

No. We use your manuscript only to create your assessment and to help with support or refunds. It's never used to train AI models.

Who can see my manuscript?

Only the services that run the assessment, like payments, file storage, and PDF creation. They handle it only to create your assessment. We never sell it or share it for advertising.

How long do you keep it?

We delete your manuscript about 30 days after delivery. We keep your assessment so we can help with questions later. If you want it deleted, email us and we will.

Do I keep all rights to my book?

Yes. Your book is yours. Sending it to us doesn't transfer any rights.

Other

Does the $297 count toward ghostwriting?

Yes. If you hire LaunchQuack to ghostwrite a book later, the full amount you paid comes off the price. The credit never expires. It works once, on one project. It doesn't apply if your assessment was refunded or charged back.

How do referrals work?

Share your link with a writer. They get $20 off. You get $50 cash once their 10-day guarantee window closes with no refund. Visit the Referrals page to join.

Who's the duck?

That's Orwell, the face of LaunchQuack and our assessments.
